Everything's been ready for a month now! But we're still in the port of Brest. So, what's going on?
Our goal is to cross the Bay of Biscay. The Bay has a bad reputation in October. The lows that cross the globe from west to east at this time of year tend to make it impassable, with heavy seas and fearsome winds. So you have to be patient if you don't want to deviate from the first rule: safety! Patience has become a good friend over the past month, and it's keeping the troops in good spirits!
☀️ The wait is good! It feeds our excitement at the approach of departure and gives us the opportunity to rest before this great adventure. Morale is high! So what are we actually doing?
🎨 Developing passions! Podcast-broderie moments under the lapping rain of Brest lull Servane and Andréa's evenings to sleep. Or we listen to the soft voice of Thibault HURLANT in front of a rugby cup match. It could rival the sound of thunder! For Margot and the other members, the reunion with books (which the lack of time at EPFL may have robbed them of), or with drawing, is magnificent! And Yana's fishing is no exception, although mackerel are in short supply.
🗣 We keep in touch with our members ashore. Sometimes we call Lola, sometimes Hugo, who are living the adventure from Switzerland alongside the rest of the Sailowtech association. Margot has even paid them a visit!
💪 Margot has had the opportunity to represent us twice at events that have given us great visibility:
- Festival des aventuriers de la mer. We were in the final of the call for projects and won the Explore prize! The project won over an audience made up of people from the world of the sea. A great moment of sharing, where we had the opportunity to see some familiar faces. 🌊
- The Forum des 100 organized by the newspaper Le Temps: this one's a crazy story. It's an event that brings together the 100 most influential people in Switzerland, and Margot stepped into this world to talk about accessible science, low-tech and the Atlantea expedition! 📰
⚙️ We also continue to train. We practise reading weather charts, we remember medical procedures, we don't forget small repairs around the boat, we take care of the accounts... We don't give up on the day-to-day business! We often talk to our dear Romain, from Ocean Trotter, about weather and organization.
♻️ We have also received equipment from Wings of the Ocean that will enable us to organize plastic clean-ups on beaches. The aim is to help monitor plastic pollution during our stopovers!
👀 Even communication is still going strong. By the way, here are some new photos on our Polar Step :
