MAKE - EPFL

Scientific will

In line with our concerns for sustainability and accessibility, our projects, protocols and tools are

designed according to four basic principles.

Field Science

Giving engineers the opportunity to put the theory into practice in approaching the science field and the actual conditions .

Open Science
(or Open Acess)

Contribute to existing open-access databases. Popularize our work to make it accessible to as many people as possible.

Frugal Science

Prove that more accessible, simpler, less costly and more sustainable science is possible for ocean research on sailboats.

Responsible Science

Practicing field science that is less invasive, less polluting and as environmentally friendly as possible

Bringing students closer to field science

Combining the potential of embedded frugal science with student dynamism to meet the challenges of field research and environmental issues.

Sailowtech gives the opportunity to the students to integrate into their curriculum, academic projects on the field. This is done through the organization of scientific expeditions sailing and the design of instruments and scientific methods through six months projects, supervised by laboratories on the campus of EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne).

We are proud of being recognized by EPFL as MAKE.This is proof that we are recognized as a scientific project in our own right, and that we have the necessary resources.

Sailowtech is recognized as a scientific project in its own right, giving us the resources we need to develop our scientific projects. Sailowtech aims for continuity and seamless transmission. The projects of some will be the starting point for the projects of others. In this way, our expedition models and instruments will be improved as and when necessary. iterations and advice take place.

We aim for robustness and reproducibility of all experimental protocols, as well as documentation and sharing of our work in line with Open Sciences principles.

The MAKE projects are interdisciplinary projects that enable EPFL students to work on concrete cases requiring teamwork and to discover project management, thus completing their training.
